Import

Whether you’re looking to import or export goods, Sealand Maersk wants to make it easier for you to do business. Below you will find all the information you need on our import and export procedures, restrictions and new surcharge structure.

  • Import procedures:

    • Special Customs Requirements – A valid import declaration must be filed with Danish Customs Authorities PRIOR to the vessel’s arrival (Deadline is Friday 11:30 for Sunday arrival and Monday 11:30 for our Tuesday arrival) and that is to be done by the importers themselves. The Customs References need to be in correct status (11) PRIOR to vessel arrival to Aarhus, Denmark. The Customs References should not be mailed or presented to Sealand Maersk. Customs References (told reference) are only needed for Copenhagen Freeport where Sealand Maersk is arranging the delivery.

    • Customs clearance details – According to requirements from Danish Customs Authorities, containers destined for Aarhus, Denmark must be customs cleared two working days BEFORE vessel arrival. Danish Customs Authorities have the right to inspect the cargo prior to the cargo being released (gate out) from the port. It is the obligation of Sealand Maersk to ensure that customs clearance has been completed - either by the consignee or a forwarder acting on his behalf. Sealand Maersk has an obligation to update actual time of arrival for on-line customs clearance documents made by consignee or the forwarder. This task is performed on a vessel level at time of arrival. Failure of customs clearance by the consignee will generate temporary clearance against the carrier. The related costs will be for the account of the consignee.

If you fail to meet the requirements of the Danish Customs Authorities you will receive a fine and a 3rd party will make a "MIO-Midlertidig oplæggelse" in the VAT number for your account. The price will be advised by one of our Customer Service team.

    • Commodity – There are no restrictions in place. Special certificates are needed for plants/seeds (phyto-sanitary certificate), and meat or fish (Veterinary and Origin certificates). Please ask our Customer Service team for more details.

    • Weight and measurement – For general information on weight and measurement restrictions please contact your local Sealand Maersk office. The general road limitations are 48 mt for truck, chassis, cargo and tare weight of container, which in reality means that most containers can be loaded to the max payload.

    • Special Cargoes – There are generally no restrictions, though for trucking to inland points special permits may be needed (dependent on the actual oversize, so please inquire). For dangerous cargo the dangerous cargo papers must be provided and approved at the time the booking is placed. Please ask our Customer Service team for exact details.
