Documentation Requirements:
- Original Bill of Lading (B/L) is necessary to release cargo from customs authorities. If B/L is printed at origin, shipper must send to consignee at least one (1) original B/L in order to release import cargo. No express release accepted.
- Any change to Bill of lading after Vessel has arrived to Guayaquil, must be notified and approved by Imports Customer Service
- Consignee information must be complete, including the TAX ID, called RUC in Ecuador.
- If the physical bill of lading has no CARRIER SEAL and it shows ML-NONE, local customs will open and inspect the container charging a customs fine. Therefore, the CARRIER SEAL is mandatory and the SHIPPER SEAL is optional.
- Electronic information is submitted to local customs systems 72 hours before vessel arrival. Any change to Bill of lading after this time, should be notified to Customer Service (customerservice@sealandmaersk.com) and pay a fine of USD 112 invoiced by local counter Columbus and a USD 55 fee added to the BL paid to SeaLand, in order to update the information in the Customs System. If change is made once vessel has arrived there is an additional fine of USD 200 made by local customs authorities and paid at Columbus.
- Weight must be in kilos and measurement in cubic meters (CBM).
- Used cars are not accepted, unless part of household goods shipment, in accordance to customs regulations.
- Used clothes are not accepted.
- No partial imports accepted. No short shipments. No manual splits are allowed.
- Seaway bills are NOT accepted
- No acceptance for 45' containers.
- OOG, B/B and IMO cargo subject to standard Sealand approval procedures and local customs regulations. Please contact customerservice@sealandmaersk.com for any inquiries.

Our setup in Ecuador consists of Combined Demurrage & Detention.
This means you will have one combined free time period and compensation for utilization of equipment inside and outside of terminals or depots including compensation for utilizing the port, terminal or depot facilities, referred to as Combined Demurrage & Detention.
