Shipping in Syria

Get up-to-date local information about export procedures and restrictions, demurrage and detention, container drop-offs and more.

Procedure

  • Bill of lading clausing, documentation – No special clauses / restrictions apply.

  • Special Customs Requirements – An export declaration must be filed with customs and this is usually done by the shipper/exporter themselves.

Restrictions

  • Commodity – The sanctions are specially targeting the Syrian Energy sector (Oil & Gas Production, Exploration etc). Companies and commodities in this sector are strictly prohibited.

  • Weight and measurement – As general guidelines, containers can be loaded to the max payload. Standard cargo weight allowed is 21 Ton/20’ – 24 Ton/40’ ( excluding tare ). For special cargo ( tiles, stone ) pls make sure to contact Seago’s local office in Syria to secure special units for heavy weight cargo

  • Special cargoes – There are generally no restrictions. For dangerous cargo the dangerous cargo papers must be provided and approved at the time the booking is placed and before stuffing. Please ask our Customer Service team for exact details.

  • General guidelines:
    • Stuffing outside the port is allowed against cash deposit/through Local Insurance Company to be nominated by the Line
    • Stuffing allowed inside Syria, moving the container to a nearby countries to do the stuffing is prohibited
    • All docs ( including original SI + copy of customs’ declaration ) should be submitted before vessel’s closure date advised once booking is confirmed
    • PTI should be submitted along with above docs in case of Reefer container
    • Full cnee’s name (including address/telephone number ) should be submitted once booking confirmed when POD is in Egypt
    • It is receiver’s responsibility to provide Seago Egypt with required doc, under no circumstances container will be loaded if receiver failed to provide such docs on time
    • No fees will occur if amendment requested before vessel’s departure
    • Amendments requested after vessel sails are subject to amendment + issuance fees as set by the Line
    • USD currency cannot be involved when shipment is from/to Syria

Demurrage / Detention / Free time

We are as of 1st of January 2017 standardizing our Detention & Demurrage products and adjusting our tariffs for Syria.

Our calculation methods for Demurrage and Detention have been improved. These calculations will be based on change in trigger events that start and stop Demurrage and Detention and parameters that will affect applicable charges within this period.

Demurrage (Start): From the day a full container is gated in for export at the terminal. 
Demurrage (End): The pro forma departure date of the vessel.

Port Storage (Start): Paid directly by customer to Syrian customs 
Port Storage (End): Paid directly by customer to Syrian customs.

Detention (Start): From the day a container is gated out empty. 
Detention (End): The day a laden container has been delivered back to the terminal (gate in full date) for export.

Manual Documentation Fee

From November 1st 2016, all shipping instruction submissions for your shipments must be submitted through My.Seagoline.com or any other online platform (EDI, INTTRA etc.).

In case that you still wish to submit the shipping instructions manually, a Manual Documentation Fee (MDF) is applied.
