Aspire Story: Embracing Change
Published on 28 August 2018
Successful and driven people have a different take on change, they choose how they allow change to affect them. They view it as an opportunity to grow and expand. Just like the story of our colleague, Thi Than Nhan Pham, the Finance and Counter Supervisor of Team MCC Vietnam.
Change is inevitable, and it is the only constant thing in life.
Most of us perceive change in a negative light. Being accustomed to our habits and routines, change can sometimes be terrifying because it pushes us out of our comfort zones.
But successful and driven people have a different take on change, they choose how they allow change to affect them. They view it as an opportunity to grow and expand.
Just like the story of our colleague, Thi Than Nhan Pham, the Finance and Counter Supervisor of Team MCC Vietnam, who has been with Maersk for 12 years.
When change happens
It was 2006, when Nhan of MCC Vietnam faced one of the biggest changes that happened in her career. She was an Accountant of P&O Nedlloyd for three years when the company was acquired by A.P. Moller Maersk.
Instead of resisting change, she looked at the brighter side of the situation. She focused on being grateful and embraced the fact that she was already part of Maersk, the largest shipping company in the world.
She was happy to be part of a dynamic company, and little did she know, it was also the start of more opportunities for her growth as a Finance professional. “I always push myself to constantly learn and improve to keep up with the growth of our team. There have been a lot of opportunities and positive changes that happened in my more than a decade stint with the group,” Nhan shares.
Nhan encountered her biggest challenge during the implementation of an organization-wide project called One Team Finance. She was at the helm of multiple teams, implementing changes to Finance processes that aim to drive improvements. For Nhan it was one of the toughest times in her career, but change proved to be beneficial for her as it became her training ground to hone her leadership skills.
“What I learned the most about this project was definitely teamwork. I focused on creating an environment of trust and accountability between me and my team. This level of trust fuels us all to give our best and hit our targets.” Nhan adds when we talk about leadership and people management.
A culture of trust
Nhan continued to take on more challenges. Now, she is the Finance and Counter Supervisor of MCC Vietnam, a job that enables her to interact with customers and help in resolving their finance-related issues.
Nhan believes that it all boils down to culture and work environment. Most MCC employees are ready for change and growth because it is deeply rooted in our culture of trust in our colleagues and in the organization.
“Change can be scary at the beginning, but with MCC, you’ll get all the support and tools to take on greater heights.” Nhan concludes.
