As you may know SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) VGM requirement: “NO VGM – NO LOAD” policy, was implemented on July 1st, 2016, meaning, every packed export container is required to have a Verified Gross Mass (VGM) as a condition of onboarding a vessel.

Sealand - A Maersk Company supports this requirement as it promotes safety across the industry, including our customers and their cargoes, landside personnel, and subsequently our employees and vessels.

We would like to reemphasize that accurate and timely VGM submission is mandatory to ensure your cargo loading from Port of Loading and Transshipment Port. VGM data missing/ delayed from your part might result in:

  • Unwanted maritime accidents
  • Roll over/ shut out from Transshipment port causing delay of the shipment
  • Unnecessary cost exposure for re-nomination and detention

To avoid the hassle & keep your shipment lead time intact, please share correct data in the first time.

What is the cut-off for VGM submission? All VGM data must be updated as per VGM deadlines depending on first loading vessel/voyage after cargo cut off. VGM deadline is included on your booking confirmation.

How should I submit the VGM?

  • Via terminal EDI
  • Via our website www.sealandmaersk.com and login through our portal. You can refer to our tutorial for guidance https://www.sealandmaersk.com/support/faqs/submit-verified-gross-mass

IMPORTANT: for those terminals that don’t have weight scale, VGM is needed to be submitted through our website.
