As part of the community projects and Corporate Social Responsibility, Sealand has donated 3 containers to the Bike Box organization. These containers will have now a second life at a park near the Sealand Miramar office in Florida, USA.

A partnership between Sealand and BikeBox made this project a reality. The idea started in 2018, with a presentation to the Broward County Parks & Rec Division about the need for more community outreach venues. Markham Park, one of the biggest parks in the area was selected as the ideal location. Shortly thereafter, Sealand joined in on the effort by donating 3, 40’ high cube containers and some funding to handle the logistics. BikeBox invested approximately $100,000.00 and turned them into a 960-square feet Bike store with an adjoining café. The space will host everything regarding bicycles (shop, rental, repair, school) but also it will be used as a place to share drinks and snacks and to host live music events and even team-building activities. This new place will bring a trail head full of safe space with an open greenfield to stay healthy and enjoy nature.

The launching of this new amenity took place Sunday, August 14th, 2022, where there was a ribbon cut and a nice family activity that involved the park visitors and many Sealanders and their families. On Sunday morning the Rumble in the Jungle Bike Race occurred with more than 500 participants.

Joe Rodriguez, North America Managing Director for Sealand said during the ribbon cut: “On behalf of Sealand, A Maersk Company, we were very intrigued with the Markham Park BikeBox project from the start. To be able to play a role in supporting our local community and BikeBox in their endeavor to promote outdoor activity, personal health, and wellness ones that we were excited to have the opportunity to do so. We plan to maintain our interaction with BikeBox regularly by extending the invite to our Sealand colleagues and customers to utilize the facility and amenities of the park. It will also be a great venue to hold company outings and career days wherein we can promote the knowledge and values of Sealand, A Maersk Company in our community. “

The Markham Park has now a new amenity that will combine the great area of a 669-acre place, for the visitors of the area to enjoy open spaces, work activities, or family days full of bike trails, dog park, ranges, radio-controlled airplane fields, fishing boating areas, skeet and trap, campgrounds, and many others.

Tito from Bikebox mentioned during the launching of the event: “we are very excited about the partnership we have established with Sealand, bringing this important amenity to the south Florida community, it is with Sealand's support that we have had recycled the containers, as part of a recycling and reusing project. Our goal has been to do community outreach and provide the community with an environment where they can exercise and enjoy nature, promote a healthy lifestyle as part of our green strategy”

The donation of the containers and the partnership with Bikebox will now complement the park amenities and all the community to have a safe area where they can enjoy themselves healthily. It is also giving new life to these containers that will now welcome all the park visitors to have a great time.
