In-Gauge cargo is smaller than or equal to the size of a flat rack or open top container. It needs special treatment, but doesn’t take additional slots on the vessel. For example: machinery or large trees that can be lowered into an open top container.
Out-of-Gauge cargo exceeds the capacity of a flat rack or open top container by length, width or height, but can still be unitised in containers. For example: propellers, flanges or larger trucks.
Break Bulk cargo vastly exceeds the size and/or weight suitable for a standard container and is therefore handled as non-unitised cargo; normally placed on a bed of flat racks with a large number of lashing points. For example: yachts, industrial machines or locomotives.
